INTERMEDIATE DRAWING

Fridays, 2pm - 5pm | 2/21; 2/28; 3/7; 3/14; 3/21; 3/28
6 sessions - 18 hrs total
(adults & youth, age 12+)

For intermediate level artists as well as those who have completed our Beginning Drawing class, here we will build upon the skills you already have. This class will be focused on drawing the still-life. Take your drawing to the next level as we explore ‘best practices’ as they apply to drawing: thumbnail sketches, choosing a composition by using a viewfinder, blocking in, managing values, value-massing, the ‘visual order’ and much more. All materials are included, but you are welcome to bring your own drawing supplies.

PAINTING THE PLASTER CAST

Thursdays, 9:30am - 12:30pm | 2/27; 3/6; 3/13; 3/20; 3/27; 4/3
6 sessions - 18 hrs total
(adults & youth, age 12+)

Same methods and procedures as the DRAWING THE PLASTER CAST class, but painting with oils monochromatically. Special attention will be given to the visual order, value relationships, value massing, the importance of ‘lost and found’ edges, and keeping a sense of unity throughout the painting’s evolution. This class is a great way for artists to hone their skills in rendering form with oils on canvas. For intermediate to advanced students, as well as those who have taken the DRAWING THE PLASTER CLASS course. A materials list will be emailed to you once you have registered for the class.

DRAWING THE PORTRAIT

Saturdays, 9 - 12 noon | 2/22; 3/1; 3/8; 3/15; 3/22; 3/29
6 sessions - 18 hrs total
(adults & youth, age 12+)

This is a class for beginners as well as experienced artists who want to improve their portrait drawing skills. Join David, who has been a professional, award-winning portrait artist for over 20 years, as we explore various methods and ‘best practices’ as they relate to head construction, feature placement and proportions, the importance of proper lighting, classifying values and value massing, and much more. In the first three class sessions, we will be doing various exercises including drawing a ‘master copy’ in charcoal. We will finish the class by each of us doing a self portrait. David will be doing demos for every aspect of the process. All materials will be provided, though you are welcome to bring your own drawing supplies if you wish.
