WORKSHOPS

FALL 2024

Margaretta Drexel, watercolor by David Draime, after J. S. Sargent

PAINTING MASTER COPIES WITH WATERCOLOR

This is a 3-day workshop.

FRIDAY, NOV. 1, 7 - 9pm SATURDAY, NOV. 2, 9am - 5pm (45 minute lunch break) SUNDAY, NOV. 3, 9am - 5pm (45 minute lunch break)

Copying master works is a time-honored tradition that can help expand an artist’s visual vocabulary by exploring how past masters perceived and rendered their subject matter. In this workshop, we will be exploring best practices as they apply to capturing the look and ‘feel’ of each source image - even as we use a medium that differs from the original. We will do a number of thumbnail ‘sketches’ as a warmup to the 3 - 4 finished watercolors we will complete over the weekend. High quality references will be provided and the focus of this workshop is portraits. A materials list will be emailed to each student once you have signed up.

INSTRUCTOR: David Draime
